Can I just ask why is it that if Oprah says it then it becomes the world’s truth?

I’m not sure if you saw Oprah’s recent revelation about meditation and how she’s finally found the missing peg…oh, and she eats bread everyday…&

But, before you sign up for your local meditation class and/or run out to buy eight loaves of bread…please continue reading.

I was at the doctor’s office the other day and the morning news was on, and a segment comes on about Oprah’s stunning weight loss.  Eyes on the TV, ears wide open…I’m ready…

What fascinating, earth-shattering secret has Oprah discovered to cure us all of our weight loss struggles?  You know, the world according to Oprah…I hear Oprah talking about how she’s lost blah, blah pounds and eats bread every day and how now she uses meditation on her weight loss journey.

Fantastic…Perfect…Spot on, Oprah…body, mind, soul, spirit on blackboard

Unfortunately, this is not breaking news…researchers have been working on this for years…the mind-body connection.   It’s what the psychology of eating is all about…connecting the dots…it is what I am truly passionate about…

Yes, Oprah, meditation helps us recognize what we’re really hungry for.  It’s NOT only about the food we eat…there is so much more to the equation.  You’ve heard me say this many times…it’s no longer eat less, exercise more.

Deepak Chopak goes on to say shedding emotional baggage is key to weight loss and meditation helps us with the baggage.  I know this first hand.  This is how I have able to maintain my weight loss – I put down the emotional bag.

Meditation decreases the levels of cortisol.

Please understand the meditation is wonderful and so beneficial, but it is not the miracle answer – it’s just one of the tools we can put in your toolbox – along many, many other positive, constructive strategies.

The doctor interviewed on GMA that morning talked about there not being a one size fits all approach…that there needs to many systems in place – meditation being one of them along with eating healthfully, exercise, having a support system in place.

If I remember correctly, she phrased it as we can’t just put all our eggs in one basket with just meditation or just healthy eating…we need an all-hands-on-deck approach.

Next week, I share how coaching can be a part of your all-hands-on-deck approach…

So for now, always remember it’s about time we return to the heart.
